Rescue Animals

At Eventide Sanctuary, the care and protection of animals are at the heart of our mission.

Home to over a hundred animals, the sanctuary serves as a refuge for creatures that have been rescued or need shelter. Many of these animals arrive through compassionate interventions, sometimes rescued from situations of neglect or abandonment.


All of the animals have been personally cared for and some even hand raised by Ian so are all very friendly and safe to be around.

100% Volunteer Run

All proceeds go back to the animals and running the campsite.

The tour Ian provided was world class, unique, personal, authentic, and much more than my wife and I could've asked for. We met over 250 animals, learned many of their names, and learned about the incredible conservation work Ian has done over such a short 3-year period of time. If you are looking for a rewarding experience with Highland cows AND MUCH MUCH MORE, I simply cannot recommend this enough. Take the time to do this, and don't think twice.

Ian looks after around 257 animals at his rescue sanctuary and knows each of them by name and individual character. His selflessness, dedication, love, passion and tireless commitment to all of the animals in his care is so admirable and our two hours with him listening to his stories and getting to know the animals absolutely flew past, we all agreed we could have stayed all day! If you're visiting or living in Tasmania then a visit to Eventide really is a must, it's definitely an experience that we won't forget! We learnt so much during our time with Ian and the animals and wish him all the best in his quest.

Eventide is absolute magic! Ian very kindly accommodated us for our daughter's birthday by running an additional tour. The many rescued animals including cows, sheep, goats, ducks, donkeys, roosters, peacocks, alpacas and of course the beautiful farm dog Wally, coexist harmoniously which is a delight to see! Best of all, they are treated like the treasures they are - their individual personalities, styles of communication and special needs are respected and understood. Anyone who loves animals will adore this farm and I'd highly recommend a visit for anyone who needs a pick-me-up because it's so thoroughly good for the soul.

[...] I would highly recommend a visit, we went as a group of around 38 and walked through the open paddocks and mingled with all the animals, such a beautiful hands on experience, not just for children but for adults too. Lots of laughs. Ian is such a dedicated man to all his animals, and works tirelessly day and night. 🙏 Thank God for Beautiful humans like him.
